“Jail” lacks the killer punch of Bhandarkar: Keep your expectations low
The much hyped latest release with the Madhur Bhandarkar label has failed to attract the cinegoers. It should be acknowledged that ‘Jail’ is manifold better than some contemporary Hindi movies, but it falls short in front of the high standard set by Bhandarkar for himself with earlier hits like Page3, Fashion etc. The lead role played by Neil Nitin Mukesh is well portrayed and he has done better work here. But the other supporting roles are not quite attractive even after having Manoj Bajpai and Mughda Godse in the list.
Jail centres on the detention of easy going upper-class guy Neil in a false drug case, his jail life and consequent things. The primary aim of the director was to detail the inside stories of the jail and the protagonist’s reactions to sudden jail life. But Bhandarkar has failed to serve both the purposes. The lead character lacks variations in its depiction and ends up as an extended documentary. If you were expecting another ‘Fashion’ or ‘Traffic Signal’ from the Bhandarkar brand then you can give a miss to “Jail”.
